However, one of the overriding issues with Deponia is how challenging it can be to follow these sequences. Certain items are required to initiate a sequence – and these all follow a very logical step-by-step process.

There’s a variety of sequences that need to be followed. It’s far from easy: it’s not as straightforward as locating what is needed, picking it up, and taking it to the suitcase. This involves searching around the house (which he shares with his ex-girlfriend) and trying to locate the items he needs. Rufus begins the game by planning to escape his setting (once more), but first needs to pack his suitcase. Despite his sense of negativity he’s a very endearing character, and honestly is one of the standouts in Deponia.ĭeponia introduces its point and click mechanics from the very first level in the game, and right from the start it doesn’t shy away from offering up a challenge to the player. Those times can be tedious, especially if the information you seek was not part of the long and pointless dialogue. Rufus can talk to anybody for ages, and sometimes I would select the wrong option and have to click through an entire conversation between characters that I have read once already. There is never a dull moment in the game, but oftentimes there are one too many bad jokes. This can be a pretty frustrating, but as long as you have some patience everything will slowly fall into place. With this, you will just have to look for as many items as possible and try your luck when all else makes no sense. It’s less stressful and that way you just focus on the puzzles and moving the story forward. Luckily, most of the time the actions you take have minimal consequences, meaning you can’t get caught even if you wanted to. Sometimes there are areas where you think you have exhausted your options, but after prompting several dialogues from other characters new scenes will open up.
